2024 Society Awards and Grants

Submission deadline extended to July 14, 2024.
The AAIC calls on its members to submit nominations each year for any or all of the five different awards to be presented at the Annual Meeting. Awards are not necessarily given each year. Remember, awards can only be given if the Awards Committee receives nominations. Please take time to nominate those you feel are deserving of special recognition of their work.
The awards are as follows:
1. A.E. Thompson Career Achievement Award
This award was established to honor Dr. A.E. (Tommy) Thompson for his many achievements and lasting contributions to the AAIC and the development of industrial crops and products. This award is given to a person who throughout his or her career has made significant contributions to the development and/or utilization of industrial crops and/or products.
Qualifications:
- Must be or have been AAIC member for two years or more
- Have 10 years or more in R&D; academia or industry
- Substantial record of peer-reviewed publications, patents, products, IP, etc.
Applications should include:
- Nomination letter from a AAIC member (current or past)
- CV (4-page) including key publications, grants awarded, patents, professional awards, accomplishments
- Statement of impact (regional, national, international) (1-page)
- Two additional letters of support
2. Outstanding Researcher Award
This award is given to a person who has conducted significant research in the field of industrial crops and/or products.
Qualifications:
- At least 2 years membership and current AAIC member
- Demonstrated well-established research
Applications should include:
- Nomination letter from a AAIC member (current or past)
- 4-page CV including key publications, grants awarded, patents, professional awards, accomplishments
- Statement of impact (regional, national, international), 1-page
3. Gail H. Dahlquist Special Recognition Award
This award is given to a person who has shown a dedication to service to AAIC or effectively promoted the study and/or development of industrial crops and/or products (education, extension, industry, etc.).
Qualifications:
- AAIC member at least 2 years
- Has held position(s) in AAIC board or provided service to AAIC or other professional associations or industry
Applications should include:
- Nomination letter
- CV (2-page) including service to profession, professional awards
- Statement of impact from service to AAIC and other professional associations or industry
4. AAIC Student of the Year Award
This award is given to an undergraduate or graduate student from any country who has performed outstanding research in the field of industrial crops and/or products. We also encourage the student to apply for a travel grant ( see below).
Qualifications:
- Students do not need to be AAIC member
- Nominator or student advisor must be current AAIC member
- Attendance and presenting at AAIC conference required

- 4-page CV including key publications, grants awarded, patents, professional awards, accomplishments.

5. AAIC Best Paper/Poster Presentation Awards
Each division will have the option of presenting a “Best Annual Meeting Paper Award” (certificate) for oral and poster presentations. The awards chairs and committee will determine the winners. There must be a minimum of three oral papers or posters presented in the division session for an award to be made or presentations/posters of two divisions might be merged.
6. AAIC Student Travel Grants
AAIC will award a minimum of $500 in travel grants to students conducting research with industrial crops to assist on expenses when attending the AAIC annual meeting. Applications should include; a brief application letter stating the student's current research and career goals, an abstract of the research being presented, and a letter of support from their major professor. The selected students will be required to give a 20-minute oral presentation during a division technical session at the annual conference. Attendance and presentation at AAIC conference is required. Students do not need to be an AAIC member.
